Career exploration activities allow young children to learn about a range of occupations, giving them exposure to the working world and helping them set practical career goals. Through career exploration, young children can picture in advance how they are going to fit into the working world, identify skills that they need and prepare themselves for careers that they love.
Inspire Your Child
Parents can ask children to come up with adjectives that they would use to describe their dream jobs. That would inspire children to reflect on themselves and what they really want. But remember to keep an open mind when discussing career choice with young children. Despite your own life experience, try to build your child’s confidence and not to dismiss their interest right away. Conduct some research with them and let them (or even yourself) learn more.
Field Trips
Parents can organize or encourage their children to take part in trips to such establishments as TV stations, fire stations and airports, and let young children have a glimpse of what’s going on behind the scene.
Job Fairs
Parents can take their teens to various job fairs where they can directly chat with and have their questions answered by employers. Parents can provide further guidance afterwards to help them choose a career path.
