Quarantine fatigue is real. The best way to fight cabin fever after COVID-19 outbreak is to explore the new 60km cycling track from Tuen Mun to Ma On Shan.

The route starts from the harbourside track at Tuen Mun, and stretches across Yuen Long, Sheung Shui, Fan Ling, Tai Po and Sha Tin. Cyclists will be greeted with idyllic seaside views and greenery along the three hour or so ride along the route. An additional 22km track between Tsuen Wan's Tsing Tsuen Bridge and Bayview Garden is expected to be open in early 2021.

Cycling is a low-impact activity that gets your heart rate up without stressing your joints. An outdoor cycling workout will help you to unwind and best of all, it is environmentally friendly.

Here's why cycling can help to promote fitness and wellbeing:

  1. Weight control
A high intensity cycling session between 12 to 14 miles per hour can burn up to 544 calories. Cycling also keeps your metabolism high, and it is good for your heart as the sport dilates blood vessels and reduces blood pressure.

  2. Muscle building
Cycling helps to strengthen your leg muscles around your quads, glutes, hamstrings and calves.

  3. Works your core
As you keep your body upright to keep the bike in position, you are actually working your core muscles on your back and abdominals.

The types of cycling activity and the routes that you prefer will often determine which bicycle you should get.

Here are your options:

  • Road bicycle: For smooth pavement and riding on the road
  • Mountain bicycle: Off-road trails on the mountains and uneven terrain
  • Cyclocross bicycle: Unpaved trails, gravel to grass

Here we also offer some cycling tips for beginners:

  • Set your seat height right
  • Choose the right saddle for comfort
  • Get a helmet to avoid head injuries

Cycling is a fun activity that can be enjoyed outdoors with your friends and family. Let's pedal up to keep your body and mind healthy.
