Safety tips for exercising with asthma:
- Take your reliever inhaler with you at all times. If you start coughing, wheezing and become unusually breathless even after you stop exercising, take your reliever inhaler.
- If you work out with other people, let them know you suffer from asthma and what they should do if you have an attack.
- Always perform your warming-up and cooling-down routines properly.
- During cold days, consider switching to indoor activities instead, or cover your mouth and nose with a scarf as cold weather can trigger asthmatic symptoms. Here’s a great winter workout for your consideration.
- Be honest with yourself. If you do not feel well, do not force yourself. Forcing yourself would only slow down recovery and defeat the whole purpose of exercising.
