Rock climbing and bouldering are both adrenaline-raising sports which require strength, muscle and determination. Learn the differences between these two types of rock climbing and choose how you would like to reach the summit.

The movement and technique of these two climbing sports are quite similar. 

The goal is the same as well - to reach the peak, or as high as you can.

Generally speaking, bouldering is more beginner-friendly; it starts at a lower height, and is relatively affordable. Fees of bouldering class for beginners range from $150 - $380, while those of outdoor rock climbing usually starts from $450.

Rock climbing and bouldering and inherently dangerous. Here are some safety tips to make your climb more safe and enjoyable.

For boulders

  • Use your toes, not the midsole while climbing. The former offers added flexibility.
  • Using too much chalk can make you sweat even more, negatively impacting the traction.
  • Bending your arms while climbing causes fatigue quicker. Your arms should remain straight.

For rock climbers

  • Follow safety precautions. Make sure you wear your gears properly. Use only high-quality rope.
  • Be considerate. Make sure you don't drop your gear or rocks on the climbers below.
  • Plan your route. Working your way out along the way will waste your precious energy.
