The Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (VHIS) is designed to offer the public affordable and comprehensive insurance protection, so the VHIS-insured have an additional choice of using private healthcare services when in need.

All VHIS hospital insurance plans must meet the below minimum requirements, which help enhance quality and transparency of these certified plans.2
- Guaranteed renewal up to 100 years old.
- 21-day cooling off period. Should you change your mind within 21 days of taking out the policy, you can cancel and get a full refund.
- Coverage must include:
- Unknown pre-existing conditions, and congenital conditions manifested or diagnosed after the age of 8. Partial coverage during 3-year waiting period and 100% coverage from 4th year on.
- Day cases procedures such as surgical procedures conducted in hospitals and clinics.
- Prescribed advanced diagnostic imaging tests (CT, MRI, PET scans) even when conducted in clinics, except for a 30% coinsurance.
- Prescribed non-surgical cancer treatments such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapy.
- Psychiatric treatment at your local hospital.
